In SOMAX, a part is a component of a larger piece of Asset / Machinery. Depending on the Asset / Machinery that they make up, they can be:
- gears
- motors
- circuits
- bearings
- belts
- sprockets
This article will describe how to add a new part. For more information on parts see About Parts.
Creating a New Part
- Either select +Add New at the top left and then Parts or, from the left sidebar, select Inventory, then Parts, then New Part at the top left. The parts form fields should appear.
- Fill out the Part ID, Description, and Issue Unit in the form fields. These fields appear in red and are required, though you may also add other information such as the UPC Code, Account, Manufacturer, and more. The descriptions of these form fields are shown in the chart below.
- Select Save & Add Another if you would like to add multiple at a time, or Save if you would just like to add the one.
- The new part should be created and you should be directed to the parts overview page. For more help navigating its contents, see About Parts.
Parts Form Fields
Field | Description |
---|---|
Part ID | The ID Code for the part. See Data Validation Rules for Part IDs for more help as to what characters are allowed. |
Description | Any details about the part. |
UPC Code | The barcode for tracking for the part. |
Account | Account that the part is linked to. |
Stock Type | Type of stock part this is generally a bearing would have a stock type of BRG |
Issue Unit | How this part is issued Ex: Each, Bag, Box or Gallon |
Manufacturer | The manufacturer of the part. |
Manufacturer ID | The manufacturer's ID. |
Critical | Designates if this is a critical part for the equipment. Helpful for filtering/sorting. |
No Asset Cross Reference | Checking this will signal to the SOMAX system not to automatically add assets when issuing parts. Helpful if you want to manually add assets to your part. See Linking Assets and Parts for more help. |
Location | Any details about where these parts are located, such as their place area, section, row, shelf, bin, and counting frequency. The count frequency determines when the Parts Physical Inventory reports will identify and schedule an inventory of the part. |
Quantities and Costs | Any details about the costs of the part and minimum/maximum number to have on hand. |
