SOMAX offers a robust Work Order Planning process for planning work orders. This process allows users to create Work Request and determine if they require Planning.
What is Planning
Maintenance planning can be defined as an end-to-end process that identifies and addresses any possible issues ahead of time. This involves identifying the parts and tools necessary for jobs and making sure they're available and laid out in the appropriate areas, having instructions on how to complete a job, and determining what is necessary and gathering the necessary parts and/or tools before a job is assigned. Maintenance planning also includes tasks related to parts like:
- Handling Stock parts
- Ordering non-stock parts
- Staging parts
- Managing breakdowns
- Allocating Resources Equipment and Personnel
Maintenance planning defines the How are we doing the work, Why are we doing the work and What work are we doing. This means specifying what work needs to be done with what materials, tools and equipment; why a particular action was chosen (why a valve is being replaced instead of a valve seat); and how the work should be completed.
Maintenance planning is not Scheduling. Maintenance Scheduling comes after work orders that require planning are ready to go i.e. they have been Planned and can now be Scheduled.
In the following articles we will explain how Planning work can be accomplished using SOMAX.
- To Start the Planning Process Create a Work Request to perform the work required
- Set the Work Request in Planning Status
- Start Planning the Work Request
- Order parts required
- Determine if additional resources are required
- Once the parts and resources have been procured set the status to Await Approval
- Once the Work Order has been Approved then the Work Order can be Scheduled to be completed
