Creating a Work Order

Modified on Tue, Aug 20 at 10:14 AM

In SOMAX, a work order is a document that describes tasks to be completed. It contains information such as:

  • who will be completing the work
  • what specific tasks must be done
  • what asset the work must be done on
  • how long the work may take

There are two methods to create work orders: using On Demand Procedure and Describe What You Need.

On Demand Procedure, is a pre-existing procedure that will automatically fill out what needs to be done.

See Adding an On Demand Work Order Procedure for more help.

Describe What You Need, is where you manually describe what needs to be done.

Finally, a work order may also be created through approving a work request. This can only be done by administrators or full users of your organization. For more help with this, see Approving/Denying Work Requests.

Creating a Work Order

  1. Either click +Add New at the top right and then Work Order or from the left sidebar, click Maintenance, then Work Order, then Search, and then New Work Order.
  2. Select the method you would like to use to create your work order: On Demand Procedure or Describe What You Need
  3. If you selected On Demand, fill out the procedure, type, and which asset you would like to charge the work order to. These are the only required fields. If you selected Describe What You Need, fill out the type, description, asset you would like to charge the work order to, and the priority. The charts below will describe each field for you.
  4. Select Save.
  5. The new work order should now be created, and the work order overview page should appear. For more help navigating its contents, see About Work Orders.
