Editing an Asset

This article should describe how to edit an asset's overview information.

Editing an Asset

  1. From the left menu select Maintenance and then Assets.
  2. Select the asset you would like to edit. This should direct you to the asset overview page. If you cannot find your asset, check your settings and filters. For more help, see Filtering and Viewing Assets.
  3. Scroll down to the asset form fields and select Edit.
  4. Edit the asset form fields as needed. For more information about each field, see the chart below. Please note that some fields are updated automatically and cannot be edited directly.
  5. Select Save.


Below is a video on how to access the form fields as well as what the form fields should look like. Remember that the fields in red are required:




Asset Form Fields


FieldDescription
Asset IDYour organization's ID for the asset. See Data Validation Rules for Asset IDs for more help as to what characters are allowed.
NameYour organization's name for the asset. See Asset Planning & Naming for more help.
CategoryThis is a way to sort assets by their category: equipment, location, vehicle.
CriticalChecking this box will sort this asset as critical to your organization.
LocationWhere this asset is located.
Department, Line, and Area (Asset Groups 1, 2, and 3)
The asset groups that you have created will appear on the asset form fields, and you may use the lookup lists to choose from them. For example, your asset groups may be department, line, and area, meaning that the lookup lists for your possible departments, line, and area will show. For more help with asset groups, see Setting up Site Details.
Serial No.Asset's serial no.
TypeType of asset. Possible options can be created in the asset Lookup Lists.
No Part Cross Reference
Checking this will signal to the SOMAX system not to automatically add parts when issuing parts. Helpful if you want to manually add parts to your asset. See Linking Assets and Parts for more help.
MakeManufacturer of the asset.
ModelThe asset's official model name or number.
AccountAccount that the asset is linked to.
Asset Number Any number associated with the asset that is different than the asset's ID.
WarrantyThis section provides information on the asset's warranty's expiration date, vendor, and description. For more help, see Adding a Vendor to an Asset.
