There are both assets and parts in SOMAX. Assets are typically the "whole" piece of equipment or machinery that, when composed of all of the necessary parts, perform specific functions for your company. Parts, on the other hand, are the pieces that may compose the asset.
There are two ways to link assets and parts. It is easiest to add parts to assets when you have one asset and multiple parts; when you have multiple assets that a part is involved with it is easiest to add assets to that part. Both methods will link the parts and assets on both the parts and assets side.
For more information and help on assets and parts, see:
No Part / Asset Cross Reference
This article explains how to manually and directly link the two. This means that you are directly adding the part or asset to the other's information section.
Issuing Parts will also automatically add that part in the asset's information. If you do not want the SOMAX system to automatically add that part, select No Part Cross Reference when editing the asset - below is a photo of where you can find it. Just make sure that you do manually add it to ensure your records are up to date and accurate.
Manually Linking Assets & Parts
Method One: From the Asset Side (One Asset, Multiple Parts)
- From the left sidebar, select Maintenance and then Assets.
- Select the asset you would like to edit. This should direct you to the asset overview page. If you cannot find your asset, check your settings and filters. For more help, see Filtering and Viewing Assets
- From the left menu, select Parts.
- Select + Add Parts at the bottom if there are no added parts, or select the blue + to the left of any existing part added.
- Select the part you would like to add by clicking the search bar icon next to Part ID. This is the only required field, though you may also add the quantity you need or use as well.
- Select Save.
Method Two: From the Parts Side (One Part, Multiple Assets)
- From the left sidebar, select Inventory and then Parts.
- Select the part you would like to edit. This should direct you to the parts overview page. If you cannot find your part, check your settings and filters. For more help, see Filtering and Viewing Parts.
- From the left menu, select Asset.
- Select + Add Asset at the bottom if there are no added assets, or select the blue + to the left of any existing asset added.
- Select the asset you would like to add by clicking the search bar icon next to Asset ID. This is the only required field, though you may also add the quantity you need or use as well.
- Select Save.
