Auto Generating Work Orders from PMs

Modified on Fri, Aug 23 at 9:37 AM

You can use the PM generator to automatically create work orders. The generator will filter through all of the existing PM jobs and display the ones that need to be created based on their triggers (calendar days or on demand groups).

For more information on the generation process, see Calendar Based Maintenance or Meter Based Maintenance.

This article describes how to use the auto generator to process and create work orders from PM jobs.

Please note that because the generator bases its data off of PM schedules, it is important to keep these schedules and recordings up to date and accurate. For more help, see Creating a PM Schedule or Recording a Meter Reading.

Auto Generating Based off of Calendar / On Demand

  1. From the left sidebar, select Maintenance, then Preventive Maintenance, and then Generate Work Orders.
  2. Select your Schedule Type and select a date you would like to generate through. You may also use the filters on the right side to narrow down the PM jobs you would like to process.
  3. Select Process.
  4. Use the checkboxes in the leftmost column to select all of the PM jobs you would like to create work orders out of.
  5. Select the checkbox next to Print Generated Work Orders if you would like to print them.
  6. Select + Create Work Orders.
  7. The work orders will now appear as "Approved" and will show up under the Open or Open/Unassigned Work Orders status until scheduled.

Below is a sample of what an auto generator may look like:

Auto Generating Based off of Meter Readings

Generating work orders based off of meter readings works a bit differently. Once you enter a meter reading that reaches or exceeds the specified interval of the last reading, SOMAX will automatically generate the work order for you.

For example, say your specified interval (which can be edited in the PM job's schedule) is 5 and your last reading is 25. Once you record a new reading that is 30 or greater, SOMAX will automatically generate a work order for you at that moment:
